Buggy Safety
All you need to know about safe buggy use
The Buggy (or stroller) is a convenient and easy way for parents, grandparents and carers to transport children around. Make sure you follow the latest safety advice to keep your loved one happy, safe and secure on every journey.
We have compiled the following guidelines from various sources to give you the best buggy safety advice possible.
- Never hang shopping bags on buggy handles, shopping can easily cause your stroller to tip over.
- Although the shopping baskets provided on many buggies provide a convenient place to store your bags, do not over fill.
- If the stroller is being bought for grandparents, take time to show them exactly how to open and close, use the clasp, and generally become comfortable with the features.
- If you stop or park your buggy always apply the foot brake.
- Do not leave your child unattended in the stroller. A worried child who is harnessed may tip the stroller.
- Never push your buggy onto an escalator with your child in it.
- When approaching to cross a road, do not push your stroller out in front of traffic.
- Take great care when folding and opening your buggy. Although a rare occurrence there have been news stories about childrens fingers becoming trapped in the hinge mechanisms.
- Ensure the buggy is fully opened before placing your child in. You should always place your child in yourself, ensuring the harness is correctly closed.
- Keep regular care of your stroller, wipe down and check for signs of damage.
- Ensure raincovers and warmers are removed when you are indoors, as your child could overheat whilst asleep.
